Upper Air Station Hogen Retrofit

Construction – 2018-2021

The project’s intent was to develop a modular prototype for hydrogen production and storage for the Upper Air Stations. This approach would improve the quality of construction and minimize the financial risk in retrofitting the stations by limiting the on site time and labour of the site renovations and installation of the technically complex hydrogen production. The project sites are all in northern Canada, mainly in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.

The project was heavily reliant on selecting appropriate, durable materials that could withstand the harsh environment, transportation, wildlife and energy concerns. Limited transportation options dictated the construction schedule and robustness of the components.
