Cross Lake Daycare

Cross Lake, Manitoba
Construction - Summer 1996
Area - 5 254sq. ft.

The Cross Lake Daycare provided licensed space for 42 pre-school children and 8 infants. The daycare was designed around a series of open activity areas, which were flooded with natural light.

The pre-school play area was focused around the play structure, derived from traditional forms, and assembled as a structure for climbing, crawling and exploring. The structure was located under one of the major light wells, providing a wash of natural light over this area.

Local labour was extensively used, providing employment within the community, as well as creating positions to administer and run the daycare. The centre is currently filled and two additions have expanded programs offered to the community.
